Music weekly update:

St. Paul's Music Program

Music is sound.

Music is rhythm - a beat I can clap.

The children will make sound with their body - hands, feet, knees etc. . .

A 3 beat pattern is one two three, one two three etc. . .

A 2 beat pattern is one two, one two, etc. . .

A 4 beat pattern is one two three four, one two three four, etc. . .

The children will clap some beat patterns and make rhythm.  We will write patterns and read & clap them.

Music is melody- That is a tune I can hum, or the song that is sung, if words are set to music.  Often words are poetry.  Example Twinkle, twinkle little star. . .

We will work on memory recall/auditory discrimination.

The child will pick a familiar tune and hum it.  All songs will be popular familiar tunes.

We will continue to explore with beats sounds for several weeks. We will add percussion instruments.

March - Writing a song with beats.  The child will create a class song with beats and will present it, using rhythm sticks.  They will read the beats from left to right.  They will count out the beats and rest sections.

They will add tempo of fast or slow using the same song.  Then we will explore pitch to our song adding high and low sounds.  The children will be able to play their own class song on a xylophone.
